You have different types of teeth in your mouth, and each one has a special job to help you eat.

  • Incisors: These are the eight flat teeth at the very front of your mouth. Their job is to bite and cut your food.
  • Canines: You have four of these pointy teeth right next to your incisors. They are perfect for ripping and tearing food.
  • Premolars: These are bigger teeth behind your canines. They help crush and grind food.
  • Molars: These are your biggest, strongest teeth at the back of your mouth. Their main job is to grind food into tiny pieces so it's easy to swallow.

The Parts of a Tooth

Every single tooth has different parts. Let's look at what's inside!

  • Crown: This is the part of the tooth you can see above your gums.
  • Root: This is the part of the tooth hidden below your gums that holds it in place.
  • Enamel: This is the super hard, white, outer layer of the tooth. It's the strongest stuff in your whole body!
  • Dentin: This is the layer just under the enamel. It's a bit softer than enamel.
  • Pulp: This is the soft, living center of the tooth. It has nerves and blood vessels inside.
