Part 3: Cultural Close-Up

If you walk around Bali, you will see small, beautiful offerings almost everywhere: on sidewalks, in front of shops, and at temples. These are called Canang Sari. They are small, square-shaped trays woven from palm leaves and filled with a vibrant assortment of flowers, rice, and incense. The Balinese people make these fresh every day as a form of gratitude and a way to balance the good and evil spirits in the world. The different colored flowers often represent different Hindu gods and directions. It is a daily ritual that shows deep respect for nature, the gods, and the community. When walking, be careful not to step on them.
