Part 2: Cultural Corner
Understanding a little bit of the local culture and language goes a long way. First, read the short passage about a unique Balinese tradition.
The Canang Sari
Every morning in Bali, you will see small, beautiful offerings placed nearly everywhere—on sidewalks, in front of shops, and at family temples. These are called Canang Sari. They are handmade daily from a woven palm-leaf basket and filled with colorful flowers, rice, and sometimes sweets or crackers. A single stick of burning incense is often placed on top.
Each item has a special meaning. The colors of the flowers, for example, often point to different directions to honor different Hindu gods. The Canang Sari is a daily act of gratitude and a way of giving back to the gods. It is a core part of Balinese Hinduism and a beautiful symbol of the island's spiritual life.
Now, answer these questions based on the text:
- What is a Canang Sari?
