Topic 4: Contractions

Notes: A contraction is a shorter way of saying two words. We use an apostrophe ( ' ) to show where one or more letters have been left out. For example: is not becomes isn't, and I am becomes I'm.

Topic 5: Punctuation

Notes: Punctuation helps us understand sentences.

A comma ( , ) separates items in a list. (I need milk, eggs, and bread.)

Add a full stop (.) or a question mark (?) at the end of each sentence.

Notes: These words are conjunctions that join sentences or ideas.

Use but to show a contrast. (He is small but strong.)
Use so to show a result. (I was tired, so I went to bed.)
