Part 1: Reading Comprehension
Read the story about David and his amazing discovery. Then, answer the questions that follow.
David loved exploring the woods behind his house. One sunny afternoon, while climbing over an old stone wall, he saw something unusual. Half-hidden under some leaves was a small, wooden box. It wasn't locked. Carefully, David lifted the lid. Inside, he found a beautiful, old compass made of brass. The needle didn't point North. Instead, it spun around and pointed to a huge, old oak tree a few metres away.
Curious, David walked to the tree. He looked all around its thick trunk. At the bottom, hidden by some roots, was a loose piece of bark. He pulled it away and discovered a small hole. Reaching inside, he pulled out a small, leather bag. It was heavy! He opened it and gasped. It was full of old, silver coins! He felt like a real treasure hunter. He decided he would ask his grandfather about the coins, as he knew a lot about history.
