Did You Know? The Paleo-Hebrew alphabet is closely related to the Phoenician alphabet. The Phoenicians were great sea traders, and they spread their writing system all over the Mediterranean. The ancient Greeks adopted it, and from the Greek alphabet came the Roman (Latin) alphabet that we use for English today. That means the letter 'A' you use is a distant, distant cousin of Aleph (𐤀)!
Activity 3: Write Like an Ancient Scribe
Now it's your turn! Try writing your first name (or a short, simple word) in Paleo-Hebrew in the box below. Remember to write from RIGHT to LEFT. Use the chart to find the letters that best match the sounds in the name.
