Instructions
Welcome! This worksheet will help you practice identifying and using adjectives and verbs. Remember:
- An adjective is a word that describes a noun (a person, place, thing, or idea). It answers questions like: What kind? How many? Which one? (Examples: blue sky, five dogs, happy student).
- A verb is a word that shows an action or a state of being. (Examples: The dog ran. She is smart. They think carefully.)
Complete the three activities below. Good luck!
Activity 1: Identify Them!
Read each sentence carefully. Underline the verb(s) and circle the adjective(s). If you are working on a computer, you can write the verbs and adjectives for each sentence on a separate line.
- The huge, grey elephant slowly walked towards the cool water.
- Brave knights fought fierce dragons in the ancient stories.
- My younger brother is always cheerful and tells funny jokes.
- The quick, clever fox jumped over the lazy, sleeping dog.
- She carefully painted a beautiful picture with bright colours.
Activity 2: Word Sort
Place each word from the box below into the correct column in the table.
| Verbs (Action Words) | Adjectives (Describing Words) |
|---|---|
Activity 3: Supercharge the Sentences
The sentences below are correct, but they are a bit boring. Rewrite each sentence by adding at least one interesting adjective and one stronger, more exciting verb. The first one is done as an example.
Example: The man walked.
Rewrite: The elderly man strolled through the peaceful park.
- The cat sat on the mat.
- The girl ate the apple.
- A car went down the road.
- The sun was in the sky.
