Leo the Lizard's Lost Colors
Leo was a little chameleon who lived in a big, green jungle. Leo was very special because he could change his colors. When he sat on a brown branch, he turned brown. When he hid among green leaves, he turned green. It was his favorite game!
One sunny morning, Leo woke up and felt strange. He looked at his tail and saw it was completely gray. He tried to sit on a bright red flower, but he stayed gray. He climbed onto a yellow banana, but he was still a dull, boring gray! Leo’s colors were gone!
Feeling very sad, Leo went to see Hoot, the wise old owl. "Hoot," he whispered, "I've lost my colors. I can't blend in anymore." Hoot blinked his big eyes. "Colors don't just come from the outside, little one," he said. "They also come from how you feel on the inside. Tell me, what is your favorite memory?"
Leo thought hard. He remembered the day he helped a tiny ladybug find its way home. As he remembered how happy he felt, a splash of cheerful red appeared on his back. Then, he remembered laughing with his friend, Mia the Monkey, as they swung on vines. A bright yellow stripe zipped down his tail! Soon, thinking of all his happy memories, Leo was covered in all the beautiful colors of the rainbow. He thanked Hoot and ran off to play, feeling more colorful than ever.
