Instructions
To round a number to the nearest hundred, we look at the digit in the tens place. It's our secret clue!
- If the tens digit is 5 or more (5, 6, 7, 8, 9), we round UP to the next hundred.
- If the tens digit is 4 or less (0, 1, 2, 3, 4), we round DOWN to the hundred we just passed.
Remember, after rounding, the tens and ones places will both be zero!
Example 1: Let's round 275.
The tens digit is a 7. Since 7 is 5 or more, we round UP! The next hundred after 200 is 300. So, 275 rounds to 300.
Example 2: Let's round 631.
The tens digit is a 3. Since 3 is 4 or less, we round DOWN! The hundred we just passed is 600. So, 631 rounds to 600.
