Example Summary:
In the first two chapters, Tommo Peaceful is remembering his childhood while waiting for something in the present. He recalls his frightening first day of school and how his older brother Charlie promised to look after him. We learn about their family, including their brother Big Joe and their loving mother. A tragic event occurs when their father is killed in a tree-felling accident while working for the Colonel. Tommo feels immense guilt because he thinks he caused the accident by disobeying his father. I think this guilt will have a big impact on Tommo as he grows up. I also predict that Charlie will continue to be Tommo's fierce protector, especially now that their father is gone.
