- 1 simile (a comparison using "like" or "as").
- 1 metaphor (a comparison stating something is something else).

Descriptive Writing Task - Example Answer
My reading lamp is no ordinary light. Its ancient, wooden base is covered in carvings that seem to move when I'm not looking. When I switch it on, a warm, golden glow spills into the room, chasing away shadows. The light stretches out like a cat waking from a nap. This lamp is a silent guardian, its light a shield against the darkness, protecting my dreams until morning.
- Adjectives: ancient, warm, golden
- Simile: "...like a cat waking from a nap."
- Metaphor: "...its light a shield against the darkness..."
