Fun Facts About Ancient Egypt!
- Ancient Egyptians built giant stone pyramids as special tombs for their kings and queens, called pharaohs.
- They wrote using a special picture alphabet called hieroglyphs. Each picture could be a sound, a letter, or a whole word!
- They believed cats were magical animals. Many families kept a cat as a pet to bring good luck.
- The long Nile River was very important. It provided water for drinking, farming, and was like a big highway for boats.
Activity 1: Design a Sarcophagus
A sarcophagus is a decorated stone coffin for a pharaoh. Use your crayons or markers to design a beautiful sarcophagus fit for a king or queen! Draw patterns, jewels, and maybe some Egyptian symbols like a cat or the sun.
Activity 2: Write Like an Egyptian!
Hieroglyphs are pictures that stand for sounds. When a pharaoh's name was written, it was always put inside a special oval shape called a cartouche to protect it. Use the chart below to try writing your own name in the cartouche!
