Life in Ancient Egypt

A long, long time ago, there was a special land called Ancient Egypt. A big river, called the Nile River, was very important. It gave people water to drink and helped them grow yummy food to eat.

The rulers of Egypt were called Pharaohs. They were like powerful kings and queens. When a pharaoh died, they were buried in huge, pointy buildings called pyramids. These pyramids were built as special tombs to protect the pharaoh's body.

The Egyptians believed in keeping the body safe for the afterlife. To do this, they would wrap the body in linen cloth to make a mummy. They also had a cool way of writing using little pictures instead of letters. This picture-writing was called hieroglyphs.
