The passengers included a rugby team, their friends, and family. After the crash, the survivors faced extreme conditions, including freezing temperatures and a lack of food and water. As days turned into weeks, they were forced to make desperate decisions for survival.

The survivors eventually resorted to eating the bodies of their deceased friends to stay alive. After enduring over two months in the mountains, they finally managed to find help, leading to the rescue of 16 people on December 20, 1972.
