Welcome to the Synonym Squad Challenge! Synonyms are words that have almost the same meaning. Using synonyms makes your writing exciting and strong. Complete the activities below carefully.

  1. Read all instructions for each section before starting.
  2. Write your answers neatly in the spaces provided.
  3. Try the Challenge Question if you finish early!

Section 1: Matching Power Pairs

Match the word in Column A to its closest synonym (a word that means almost the same thing) in Column B. Draw a line to connect them or write the corresponding letter.

Section 2: The Odd One Out

Read the four words in each set. Three of the words are synonyms (they mean the same thing). Circle the one word that does NOT belong (the 'odd one out').

Replace the underlined 'weak' word in each sentence with a stronger synonym from the box below. Write the new, stronger sentence on the line.

Section 4: Vocabulary Builder Chart

For each word given, write two different synonyms. Think of words you would use to replace the main word in a sentence.
