Welcome to the Great Zoo Inventory! You are the official Zoo Accountant, and you need to add up the totals for animals, visitors, and supplies. Use your addition strategies and remember to regroup (carry the 10) when the total in any column is 10 or more.

  1. Read each question carefully and set up the addition problem.
  2. Start adding in the Ones column (far right).
  3. If you get 10 or more, circle 10 and move it to the next column (regroup).
  4. Complete all sections. The final section is a challenge!

Section 1: The Zoo Snack Count (Regrouping Practice)

We need to count how many bags of food we have. Use the table below to help keep your Ones and Tens separated. Remember to regroup when the total in the Ones column is 10 or more.

3 5 35
+ 2 8 + 28

Section 2: Total Animal Tally (Vertical Addition)

Set up these problems vertically (one number on top of the other) and solve. Circle the regrouped number at the top of the next column.

  1. 71 + 19 =

    Answer: _____
