Part 1: The Mystery of the Word
In the first five verses, John uses a special name for Jesus: The Word. Read verses 1–5 and fill in the missing pieces to understand who "The Word" is.
- In the beginning was the ____, and the ____ was with God, and the ____ was God. (v. 1)
- All things were ____ through Him, and without Him nothing was ____ that was ____. (v. 3)
- In Him was ____, and the ____ was the light of men. (v. 4)
Reflection: If Jesus is the "Light," what are some things light does in a dark room? How does Jesus do that for people?
Part 2: The Witness
John the Baptist had a very specific job. He wasn't the Light himself, but he was sent to tell people about the Light.
True or False? (Circle one)
- John the Baptist claimed to be the Christ. (True / False) (v. 20)
- John said he was the "voice of one crying in the wilderness." (True / False) (v. 23)
- John baptized people with fire. (True / False) (v. 26)
- John saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove. (True / False) (v. 32)
Part 3: Identifying the King

|---|---|---|
| Verse 29 | The Lamb of God | Example: He takes away the sin of the world. |

| Verse 49 |
Part 4: "Come and See"
When Andrew found his brother Simon (Peter), and when Philip found Nathanael, they both invited them to "Come and see" Jesus.
Scenario: Imagine a friend asks you why you go to church or read the Bible. Based on what you read in John 1, how would you describe Jesus to them in two sentences?
Part 5: Deep Diver Challenge
In verse 51, Jesus mentions "angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." This is a reference to a famous dream a man named Jacob had in the Old Testament (Genesis 28).
Question: If Jesus is like a ladder or a staircase between Earth and Heaven, what does that tell us about His purpose?
