Section 2: Reading Comprehension

The Great Science Fair

Last Friday, the gymnasium at Maplewood Elementary was transformed into a bustling hub of discovery for the annual Science Fair. Students from the fourth grade spent weeks preparing their displays. Maya carefully arranged her colorful poster board about solar energy, while her partner, Leo, checked the wiring on their small motor. Tables were lined with erupting volcanoes, jars of growing crystals, and even a robot made of recycled soda cans. The air was filled with the smell of vinegar and the excited chatter of young scientists.

When the judges arrived at noon, the room grew quiet with anticipation. Mr. Henderson, the head judge, walked from table to table with a silver clipboard. He asked the students difficult questions about their hypotheses and results. Many parents arrived later in the afternoon to admire the hard work. At the end of the day, every student received a blue ribbon for participation, but the best part was seeing the amazing things they had learned together. It was truly a day to remember.
