Instructions

  1. Read the Revision Notes at the start of each section before attempting the questions.
  2. Use a pencil so you can easily correct any mistakes.
  3. Work through the sections in order, as they start with the basics and get more challenging.
  4. Check your work against the Answer Key at the end once you have finished the entire worksheet.

Section 1: Place Value and Digit Value

Revision Note:

  • Place Value is the name of the position a digit holds (Thousands, Hundreds, Tens, or Ones).
  • Digit Value is how much that digit is actually worth (e.g., in 4,521, the digit 5 is in the Hundreds place and its value is 500).

Identify the Place Value or Digit Value for the underlined digit:

Number Underlined Digit Place Value Digit Value
3,452 5 Tens 50
1,980 9
7,214 7
5,036 3
8,462 2
4,105 1

Answer the following:

  1. In the number 6,239, which digit is in the thousands place? ____
  2. What is the value of the digit 8 in the number 2,844? ____
  3. In the number 9,051, what is the place value of the 0? ____
  4. True or False: In 4,552, the two 5s have the same digit value. ____
  5. Create a 4-digit number where the digit in the tens place is 7. ____

Section 2: Base-Ten Block Counting

Revision Note:

  • A large cube = 1,000
  • A flat square = 100
  • A tall rod = 10
  • A small cube = 1

Count the blocks and write the total number in digits:

  1. [2 Thousands] [4 Hundreds] [3 Tens] [5 Ones] = 2,435
  2. [1 Thousand] [6 Hundreds] [0 Tens] [9 Ones] = __
  3. [3 Thousands] [2 Hundreds] [5 Tens] [1 One] = __
  4. [5 Thousands] [0 Hundreds] [8 Tens] [4 Ones] = __
  5. [4 Thousands] [7 Hundreds] [2 Tens] [0 Ones] = __
  6. [7 Thousands] [1 Hundred] [1 Ten] [1 One] = __
  7. [2 Thousands] [9 Hundreds] [9 Tens] [9 Ones] = __
  8. [6 Thousands] [3 Hundreds] [4 Tens] [2 Ones] = __
  9. [9 Thousands] [0 Hundreds] [0 Tens] [5 Ones] = __

Section 3: Writing Numbers in Words

Write the digit form for these number words:

  1. Five thousand, six hundred and twelve: 5,612
  2. Three thousand, four hundred and seven: __
  3. Eight thousand and ninety-one: __
  4. One thousand, five hundred and thirty: __
  5. Six thousand and two: __
  6. Four thousand, seven hundred and eighty-eight: __

Section 5: Number Patterns

Revision Note: Identify which place is changing. Is it the Thousands (+1000), Hundreds (+100), or Ones (+1)?

Complete the patterns below:

  1. 4,520 | 4,521 | 4,522 | 4,523 | 4,524 (Increase by 1)
  2. 1,200 | 2,200 | 3,200 | __ | __ (Increase by 1,000)
  3. 5,450 | 5,550 | 5,650 | __ | __ (Increase by 100)
