Instructions
- Read the Story: Read 1 Kings 17:7-25 in your Bible, or listen as a teacher or parent reads it aloud.
- Follow the Steps: Complete each section below in order.
- Use Your Imagination: When writing your answers, put yourself in the shoes of Elijah, the widow, and her son!
Section 1: The Story Map
Fill in the blanks using the Word Bank below to complete the story of God's amazing provision.
Word Bank:
Flour | Rain | Elijah | Live | Trust | Son

-
God told Elijah to go to a town called Zarephath, where a widow would feed him.
-
The widow had only a tiny handful of ____ and a little oil. She thought she and her son would eat one last meal and die.
-
Elijah told her, "Do not fear." He asked her to ____ God and make him a small loaf of bread first.
-
Because she obeyed, the jar of flour and the jug of oil never ran out! They had food to ____ for many days.
-
Later, the widow's ____ grew very sick and stopped breathing. Elijah prayed to God, and God brought the boy back to life!
Section 2: The Provision Tracker
When times get tough, God provides in creative ways. Look at the example in the first row, then fill in the blank rows for the other situations in the story. Finally, think of a time you needed help!
| Character | What was the big problem? | How did God provide? |
|---|---|---|
| Example: Elijah at the brook | The brook dried up because there was no rain. | God sent him to Zarephath and promised a widow would feed him. |
| The Widow | ||
| The Widow's Son | ||
| Elijah in the Upper Room | ||
| You (A time you were worried) |
(Note: Students, use your neatest handwriting to fill in the boxes above!)
Section 3: Deep Thinker Discussion
Answer the questions below using complete sentences. Imagine how hard it must have been to make those choices!
-
The Sharing Challenge: The widow only had enough ingredients for one final meal. Why do you think she chose to feed Elijah, a stranger, before feeding herself and her son?
-
Real-Life Connection: Sharing is easy when we have a lot of something (like a whole bag of candy). Why is it much harder to share when we only have a little bit left? How can we practice trusting God like the widow did?
Section 4: The Faith Challenge (Bonus)
Scenario: Imagine you have saved up $5.00 of your own chore money to buy a toy you really want. At church or school, you hear about a family whose house was damaged, and they need help buying groceries.
Based on what the widow did with her last bit of flour, what do you think is the best way to handle your $5.00? Draw a picture of your choice in the box below!
