In 1492, Columbus sailed with three ships: the Santa Maria, the Niña, and the Pinta. He reached islands in the Caribbean, where Indigenous peoples already lived. Columbus's voyages connected Europe and the Americas more often, but they also brought disease, fighting, forced labor, and loss of land to many Indigenous communities.
