Objective

By the end of this lesson, the 3-year-old homeschool student will have a basic understanding of various subjects through a doctor theme.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons
  • Storybooks about doctors
  • Toy doctor kit
  • Flashcards with numbers and shapes
  • Music player or instrument
  • Open space for physical activities
  • Various objects related to science (e.g., magnifying glass, toy stethoscope, toy microscope)
  • Picture books about different cultures

Activities

  • Create "Get Well Soon" Cards: Have the student draw and decorate cards for their stuffed animals or family members who are feeling unwell. Encourage them to use their imagination and creativity.
  • Read Doctor Storybooks: Read storybooks about doctors to the student and discuss the roles and responsibilities of doctors. Ask questions to engage their understanding.
  • Pretend Play: Use the toy doctor kit to engage in pretend play. Encourage the student to act as a doctor, patient, or nurse. Discuss different tools and their purposes.
  • Counting and Shapes: Use flashcards with numbers and shapes to introduce basic math concepts. Ask the student to identify and count shapes, or match numbers with objects.
  • Sing and Dance: Play music related to doctors or health and encourage the student to sing along or dance. This activity promotes physical movement and coordination.
  • Explore Science Tools: Introduce various science tools, such as a magnifying glass or toy stethoscope. Let the student explore and observe objects using these tools.
  • Discover Cultures: Look at picture books about different cultures and discuss how doctors are perceived and valued in various parts of the world. Encourage respect and appreciation for diversity.
