Objective

The objective of this lesson is for the student to explore the concept of famous couples throughout history and develop their creativity and writing skills by imagining what their DMs (Direct Messages) would look like in today's digital world.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are required for this lesson.
  • Prior knowledge of historical figures or fictional couples would be helpful, but not necessary.

Activities

  1. Research and Choose a Couple: Have the student research and choose a famous couple from history or fiction that they find interesting. They can consider couples like Romeo and Juliet, Cleopatra and Mark Antony, Bonnie and Clyde, or even fictional couples like Harry Potter and Hermione Granger.

  2. Create a DM Conversation: Once the couple is chosen, ask the student to imagine what their DMs would look like if they were communicating through social media platforms like Instagram or Twitter. Encourage them to think about the couple's personalities, historical context, and the nature of their relationship. The student can create a dialogue between the couple, keeping it fun and engaging.

  3. Write and Format the DMs: Instruct the student to write down the DM conversation they created. They can use a word processor or a pen and paper. Encourage them to format the conversation in a visually appealing way, using different fonts, colors, or emojis to represent the couple's personalities or emotions.

  4. Share and Discuss: Once the DM conversation is complete, have the student share it with you or a family member. Engage in a discussion about the couple, their historical or fictional significance, and how the DM conversation reflects their relationship or the era they lived in.

Talking Points

  • "Why did you choose this particular couple? What interests you about them?"
  • "How did you imagine their personalities and communication style in the DM conversation?"
  • "What aspects of their relationship or historical context did you consider while creating the DMs?"
  • "What creative elements did you incorporate into the formatting of the DM conversation?"
  • "What did you learn about the couple or the era they lived in through this activity?"
  • "How do you think social media and technology would have influenced their relationship if they lived in today's world?"
