Objective

The objective of this lesson is to engage the 10-year-old homeschool student in a fun and educational exploration of dinosaurs, puzzle solving, story telling, and computing. By the end of the lesson, the student will have improved their English, Math, Science skills, and developed their problem-solving abilities.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencils
  • Computer or tablet with internet access
  • Optional: Books or online resources about dinosaurs

Activities

1. Dinosaur Puzzle: Provide the student with a dinosaur-themed jigsaw puzzle. Encourage them to solve the puzzle independently, focusing on problem-solving and spatial reasoning skills.

2. Storytelling Adventure: Ask the student to imagine they are a paleontologist exploring a new dinosaur discovery. Have them write a short story or create a comic strip describing their adventure. This activity will enhance their English and creative writing skills.

3. Computing Challenge: Introduce the student to a simple programming platform or coding game. Ask them to solve puzzles or create a program related to dinosaurs. This activity will foster their interest in computing and logical thinking.

4. Science Experiment: Conduct a simple science experiment related to dinosaurs. For example, create a vinegar and baking soda volcano to simulate a dinosaur eruption. This hands-on activity will teach the student about chemical reactions and scientific method.
