Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to make a cup of tea on your own.

Materials and Prep

  • A kettle
  • A cup
  • A tea bag
  • Hot water
  • Sugar or honey (optional)
  • A spoon
  • A timer or clock
  • An adult to supervise

Before we start, make sure you have all the materials ready and ask an adult to help you with the hot water.

Activities

  1. Boiling Water: Fill the kettle with cold water and place it on the stove. Turn on the heat and wait for the water to come to a boil.
  2. Preparing the Cup: While the water is boiling, take a cup and place a tea bag inside. If you like your tea sweet, you can add some sugar or honey.
  3. Pouring the Water: Once the water is boiling, carefully pour it into the cup over the tea bag. Be cautious not to spill or burn yourself.
  4. Steeping: Set a timer for 3-5 minutes and let the tea bag steep in the hot water. This is when the flavor of the tea infuses into the water.
  5. Removing the Tea Bag: After the timer goes off, use a spoon to gently squeeze the tea bag against the side of the cup to release any remaining liquid. Then, carefully remove the tea bag and place it aside.
  6. Enjoying Your Tea: Your cup of tea is now ready! Take a moment to smell the aroma and enjoy sipping your freshly brewed tea.

Talking Points

  • Tea is made from the leaves of a plant called Camellia sinensis.
  • There are different types of tea, such as black tea, green tea, and herbal tea, each with its own unique flavor and benefits.
  • Boiling water helps to extract the flavors and compounds from the tea leaves.
  • Steeping the tea bag allows the water to absorb the flavors and colors of the tea leaves.
  • Tea can be enjoyed plain or with added sugar, honey, or milk, depending on personal preference.
  • Remember to be careful when handling hot water to avoid burns.
  • Take your time to savor and enjoy the taste of your tea.
  • Experiment with different types of tea and find your favorite flavor!
