Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand what a town or city is and how buildings are constructed.

Materials and Prep

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or crayons
  • Building blocks or Legos (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Create a Town: Provide the student with construction paper, scissors, glue, and markers or crayons. Instruct them to design and construct their own town or city using the materials. Encourage them to think about different types of buildings they would like to include, such as houses, schools, stores, and parks.
  2. Build a Structure: If the student has building blocks or Legos, ask them to use these materials to build a structure of their choice. They can follow instructions from a building set or create their own design. This activity will help them understand the process of constructing a building.
  3. Research Buildings: Together with the student, explore books or online resources about different types of buildings and their purposes. Discuss the importance of various buildings in a town or city, such as hospitals, fire stations, libraries, and more.
