Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the features of a home and apply your knowledge to build a model home using only paper and cardboard.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Tape or glue
- Pencils or markers
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have gathered all the materials listed above. It would also be helpful to have some pictures or illustrations of different types of homes to show the student.
Activities
- Discuss the features of a home: Begin by talking about what makes a house a home. Ask the student to share their thoughts on what they think are important features of a home, such as walls, doors, windows, and a roof.
- Explore different types of homes: Show the student pictures or illustrations of various types of homes, such as houses, apartments, and cabins. Discuss the similarities and differences between these different types of homes.
- Design your dream home: Provide the student with paper and pencils or markers. Ask them to draw their dream home, including all the features they discussed earlier. Encourage creativity and imagination.
- Build a model home: Using the cardboard, scissors, and tape or glue, guide the student in constructing a model home based on their dream home design. Help them cut out walls, doors, windows, and a roof from the cardboard and assemble them to create the model home.
- Presentation and reflection: Once the model home is complete, have the student present their creation to you or other family members. Ask them to explain the features of their model home and why they included them. Reflect on what they have learned throughout the lesson.
