Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will learn about nutrition and understand the importance of eating healthy foods.
Materials and Prep
- Fruits and vegetables (e.g., apple, carrot, banana)
- Plates and utensils
- Water
- A chart or poster showing different food groups
- Optional: Coloring materials
Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the five main food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy.
Activities
- Sorting Game: Ask the student to sort the fruits and vegetables into different groups based on their colors. For example, red fruits like apples can go in one group, while green vegetables like broccoli can go in another. This will help them understand that different foods belong to different groups.
- Healthy Plate: Show the student a chart or poster with the different food groups. Explain that a healthy meal should have a variety of foods from each group. Ask the student to create their own healthy plate by drawing or arranging pictures of different foods on a plate.
- Taste Test: Prepare a small selection of fruits and vegetables. Encourage the student to taste each one and describe how it tastes. Discuss the importance of eating a variety of fruits and vegetables for good health.
- Water is Important: Explain to the student that water is essential for our bodies. Have them drink a glass of water and discuss why it is important to stay hydrated.
