Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will be able to identify and match basic shapes through engaging shape puzzle activities.
Materials and Prep
- A set of shape puzzles (circle, square, triangle, rectangle)
- A clean and safe learning area
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduction to Shapes: Show the student each shape puzzle and name the shapes. Encourage the student to repeat the names after you.
- Shape Sorting: Spread out the shape puzzles on the floor or table. Ask the student to find and match each shape to its corresponding puzzle piece.
- Shape Hunt: Hide the shape puzzles around the learning area. Ask the student to find and bring back each shape one by one, naming them as they are found.
- Shape Tracing: Place a sheet of paper over each shape puzzle and help the student trace the outline of the shape with a crayon or pencil.
- Shape Building: Encourage the student to use the shape puzzles to create simple structures or patterns.

- "Look at this shape, it's a circle! Can you say circle?"
- "Now let's find the circle puzzle piece. Can you match it to the circle shape?"
- "Great job! This is a square. Can you say square?"
- "Find the square puzzle piece and put it together with the square shape."
