Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different types of construction trucks and understand their functions.
Materials and Prep
- Construction truck toys (e.g., dump truck, excavator, bulldozer)
- Construction truck coloring sheets
- Colored pencils or crayons
- Construction truck books (optional)
Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with the different types of construction trucks and their functions. You can also gather some construction truck books for additional reference.
Activities
- Activity 1: Playtime with Construction Trucks
- Activity 2: Coloring Construction Trucks
- Activity 3: Storytime with Construction Trucks
Let the student explore and play with the construction truck toys. Encourage them to identify the different trucks and mimic their movements. For example, they can scoop up imaginary dirt with the excavator or push around small objects with the bulldozer.
Provide the student with construction truck coloring sheets and colored pencils or crayons. Ask them to color the trucks using their imagination or based on real-life examples they have seen. While they color, talk about the different parts of the trucks and their purposes.
Read a construction truck book together or make up a story involving the trucks. Encourage the student to ask questions and engage in discussions about the trucks' roles in building and construction.
Talking Points
- Construction trucks are big, powerful vehicles used to build things like houses, roads, and bridges.
- The dump truck helps carry and transport materials like dirt, rocks, or sand from one place to another.
- The excavator has a big arm called a boom and a bucket at the end. It can dig deep holes or scoop up dirt and rocks.
- The bulldozer has a large blade in the front that can push dirt, rocks, or debris out of the way.
- Construction workers drive these trucks and use them to make our cities and towns better.
