Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and count different types of dinosaurs, as well as practice basic addition using dinosaur-themed objects.
Materials and Prep
- Dinosaur toys or pictures
- Paper and crayons
- Counting objects (could be small rocks, buttons, or any small items)
No specific prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Dinosaur Identification: Show the student different dinosaur toys or pictures and ask them to name each one. Encourage them to describe the features of each dinosaur.
- Dinosaur Counting: Scatter the counting objects on a table or the floor. Ask the student to count how many objects there are. Help them write down the number on a piece of paper.
- Addition with Dinosaurs: Use the dinosaur toys or pictures to create simple addition problems. For example, place two dinosaurs on the table and ask the student to add one more. Help them count the total and write down the answer.
- Dinosaur Drawing: Give the student paper and crayons. Ask them to draw their favorite dinosaur and label it with its name.
Talking Points
- Dinosaur Identification: "Look at this dinosaur! Can you tell me its name? What does it look like? Does it have sharp teeth or long tail?"
- Dinosaur Counting: "Let's count how many dinosaurs there are. One, two, three... Can you write down the number we counted?"
- Addition with Dinosaurs: "We have two dinosaurs here. If we add one more, how many will we have in total? Let's count them together and write down the answer."
- Dinosaur Drawing: "Now it's time to draw your favorite dinosaur! Use these crayons and paper. Don't forget to write its name too!"
