Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Vocabulary Match-Up

Write down the following gymnastics-related words on separate pieces of paper: cartwheel, somersault, balance beam, vault, and flip. Mix them up and place them face down on the table. Turn over two cards at a time and try to match the word with its corresponding picture or description. Take turns with a family member or friend and see who can make the most matches.

  • Activity 2: Gymnastics Sentences

Choose three gymnastics-related words from the previous activity. Use each word in a sentence to describe a gymnastics move or event. For example, "I did a cartwheel on the balance beam." Write down your sentences neatly on a piece of paper or in your notebook.

  • Activity 3: Create a Gymnastics Routine

Imagine you are a gymnast performing a routine. Draw a picture or write a story about your routine. Include the different moves you have learned and describe how you feel while performing them.
