Objective

By the end of this lesson, the 1-year-old student will have fun and learn how to make playdoh.

Materials and Prep

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A mixing bowl
  • A spoon or spatula
  • Plastic wrap or ziplock bag for storage

Before starting the lesson, make sure the materials are ready and easily accessible. Also, ensure a clean and safe workspace for the student.

Activities

  • Mixing the Ingredients: Show the student how to pour the flour, salt, and water into the mixing bowl. Encourage them to use their hands or a spoon to mix everything together.
  • Add Color (Optional): If desired, demonstrate adding a few drops of food coloring to the mixture and mixing it again to create colored playdoh.
  • Exploring Textures: Provide the student with various objects to press into the playdoh, such as cookie cutters, toy cars, or their own hands. Encourage them to explore the different textures and imprints they can create.
  • Free Play: Allow the student to freely play with the playdoh, encouraging their creativity and imagination. Observe and interact with them, praising their efforts and discoveries.
