Activities

  • Activity 1: Introduction to Significant People and Places
  • Begin the lesson by discussing the concept of significant people and places in history. Show the student examples of significant people and places in Australian history, such as explorers, politicians, and landmarks. Encourage the student to share any prior knowledge or personal interests in Australian history.

  • Activity 2: Cemetery Crawl
  • Take the student on a cemetery crawl to explore the gravesites of significant people from Australian history. Provide the student with a map of the cemetery and guide them to specific gravesites of notable individuals. Encourage the student to observe the tombstones, read the inscriptions, and take notes or photographs of interesting findings.

  • Activity 3: Research and Reflection
  • After the cemetery crawl, have the student conduct further research on the significant people they encountered during the activity. Encourage the student to learn more about their contributions to Australian history and write a short reflection on what they found most interesting or inspiring.
