Materials and Prep

  • Legos
  • Printed Lego building instructions with pictures

Activities

  • Activity 1: Introduction to Legos
  • Start by showing the student different types of Lego pieces and explaining their purpose. Let them explore the pieces and encourage them to ask questions.

  • Activity 2: Understanding Picture Directions
  • Show the student the printed Lego building instructions with pictures. Explain that the pictures show the step-by-step process of building a Lego model. Discuss how to follow the pictures and match the Lego pieces accordingly.

  • Activity 3: Building a Simple Lego Model
  • Select a simple Lego model from the instructions and guide the student through the building process. Encourage them to follow the pictures and assemble the pieces accordingly. Provide assistance when needed.

  • Activity 4: Independent Lego Building
  • Allow the student to choose a different Lego model from the instructions and attempt to build it independently. Offer guidance and support as necessary, but encourage them to rely on the picture directions.

Talking Points

  • Legos are colorful building blocks that can be assembled in different ways.
  • Picture directions show us how to build something step by step.
  • We need to look at the pictures carefully and match the Lego pieces with what we see.
  • If we get stuck, we can ask for help or look at the pictures again.
  • It's okay to make mistakes! We can always take apart the pieces and try again.
