Objective

The objective of this lesson is for the student to understand the factors that limit and enhance the capacity to move and perform in physical activities and sports.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Prior knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology is helpful but not required.

Activities

  • Warm-up exercises: Start the lesson with a series of dynamic warm-up exercises to get the student's body ready for physical activity. Include activities such as jogging in place, jumping jacks, high knees, and arm circles.

  • Obstacle course: Set up a simple obstacle course in the backyard or a large open space. Include various challenges like crawling under a table, jumping over hurdles, and balancing on a beam. Have the student complete the course multiple times, noting how different factors affect their performance.

  • Discussion and reflection: Sit down with the student after completing the obstacle course and discuss their experience. Ask questions like:

    • What factors helped you perform well in the obstacle course?

    • What factors limited your ability to move and perform?

    • How could you enhance your capacity to move and perform better in the future?

  • Research and presentation: Assign the student to research one specific factor that limits or enhances the capacity to move and perform. They can choose from topics such as flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, or nutrition. Have them create a short presentation to share their findings with the class.
