Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will have explored and engaged in process art activities with a Valentine's Day theme, fostering creativity, fine motor skills, and sensory exploration.
Materials and Prep
- Large sheets of paper or cardboard
- Non-toxic washable paints in various colors
- Paintbrushes or sponges
- Optional: Heart-shaped stencils or cookie cutters
- Apron or old clothes to protect from paint
- Plastic tablecloth or newspapers to cover the work area
- Wet wipes or damp cloth for easy clean-up
No prior knowledge or experience is necessary for this lesson. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to have fun!
Activities
- Activity 1: Finger Painting Hearts
- Activity 2: Sponge Painting
- Activity 3: Stencil Printing
Encourage the student to dip their fingers into the paint and create heart shapes on the paper. They can explore mixing colors and making different sizes of hearts.
Show the student how to dip a sponge into the paint and then press it onto the paper to create colorful patterns. They can experiment with different sponge sizes and colors.
If you have heart-shaped stencils or cookie cutters, show the student how to place them on the paper and then paint over them. When they remove the stencil, they will see a heart shape left behind.
