Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to evaluate how texts represent ideas and experiences, and how they can affirm or challenge values and attitudes.

Materials and Prep

  • No additional materials are required for this lesson.
  • Prior knowledge of reading and analyzing texts is helpful.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Analyzing a Short Story
Read a short story of your choice and identify the ideas and experiences represented in the text. Consider how the story affirms or challenges certain values and attitudes. Write a brief analysis of your findings.
  • Activity 2: Comparing Different Perspectives
Choose two different texts (e.g., articles, poems, song lyrics) that discuss a similar topic. Compare and contrast how each text represents the ideas and experiences related to the topic. Reflect on how these representations affirm or challenge different values and attitudes.
  • Activity 3: Creating Your Own Text
Create your own text, such as a short story, poem, or song, that represents a specific idea or experience. Consider how you can use your text to affirm or challenge certain values and attitudes. Share your creation with others and discuss the impact it may have on their perspectives.
