Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify phonics sounds using flashcards.
Materials and Prep
- Flashcards with phonics sounds (letters and corresponding pictures)
- A clear and well-lit learning area
Activities
- Activity 1: Introduction to Flashcards - Show the flashcards to the student and explain that each card has a letter and a picture representing a sound.
- Activity 2: Sound Recognition - Hold up a flashcard, say the sound represented by the picture, and ask the student to repeat the sound.
- Activity 3: Sound Association - Show the flashcards one by one and ask the student to name the letter and the corresponding sound.
- Activity 4: Memory Game - Place a few flashcards face down on the table. Take turns with the student flipping two cards at a time, trying to match the letter and sound. If a match is made, say the sound together.
- Activity 5: Create Words - Using the flashcards, ask the student to choose a few cards and arrange them to form simple words. Help them sound out each letter and blend the sounds together to read the word.
Talking Points
- "Today, we are going to learn about phonics sounds using these special cards called flashcards. They have letters and pictures to help us learn the sounds."
- "Let's start by looking at each flashcard and saying the sound it represents. For example, this card has a picture of a cat, and the sound it represents is 'c'."
- "Now, I will show you a flashcard, and I want you to tell me the letter and the sound it represents. Can you do that?"
- "Let's play a memory game with these flashcards. We will take turns flipping two cards and trying to find a match. When we find a match, we will say the sound together."
- "Now, let's use the flashcards to create some words. Choose a few cards and place them in order. Then, we will sound out each letter and blend the sounds together to read the word."
