Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and count different shapes and colors of building blocks.
Materials and Prep
- Building blocks of various shapes and colors
- A clear workspace or play area
- Enthusiasm and patience!
Activities
- Sorting Shapes: Ask the student to sort the building blocks by their shapes. Encourage them to name the shapes as they sort.
- Matching Colors: Ask the student to find blocks of the same color and stack them together. Help them name the colors as they match.
- Building Towers: Encourage the student to build towers using the blocks. Count the number of blocks in each tower together.
- Patterning: Create simple patterns using the blocks (e.g., red, blue, red, blue). Ask the student to continue the pattern.
