Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of teamwork in sports and how to report bullying incidents that may occur within a team.

Materials and Prep

  • A ball or any sports equipment of choice
  • A notebook or paper
  • Pencils or markers
  • A quiet space to talk and reflect

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by playing a game of catch or kicking a ball back and forth with the student. This will help them get physically active and excited about team sports.
  2. Teamwork Discussion: Sit down with the student and have a conversation about the importance of teamwork in sports. Ask them questions like, "Why do you think it's important to work together as a team?" and "How can working together make a team stronger?" Encourage them to share their thoughts and provide examples.
  3. Role-Play: Pretend to be a coach and have the student act as a team member. Create scenarios where the student witnesses bullying within the team and guide them on how to respond. Teach them to report bullying incidents to a trusted adult, such as a coach or parent, and emphasize the importance of standing up against bullying.
  4. Art Activity: Give the student a piece of paper and ask them to draw a picture of their ideal team. Encourage them to include positive aspects of teamwork and how they can support each other.
  5. Reflection: Have a quiet moment with the student to reflect on the lesson. Ask them questions like, "What did you learn about teamwork today?" and "How do you feel about reporting bullying incidents now?" Allow them to express their thoughts and feelings.
