Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify different types of dinosaurs and understand basic facts about them.

Materials and Prep

  • Dinosaur books or printouts
  • Coloring materials (crayons, colored pencils, markers)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Activity 1: Dinosaur Coloring
  • Print out or use dinosaur coloring sheets and let the student color them using their favorite colors. Encourage creativity and ask them to name the dinosaurs as they color.

  • Activity 2: Dinosaur Cutouts
  • Print out or draw different dinosaur shapes on paper. Have the student cut them out using scissors and then glue them onto a larger piece of paper to create a dinosaur scene.

  • Activity 3: Dinosaur Facts
  • Read dinosaur facts from a book or online resource and discuss them with the student. Ask questions to check their understanding and encourage them to ask their own questions.

  • Talking Point 1: Dinosaurs lived a very long time ago and are now extinct. They were huge creatures that roamed the Earth.
  • Talking Point 2: Some dinosaurs were herbivores, which means they only ate plants, while others were carnivores and ate meat.
  • Talking Point 3: T-Rex, also known as Tyrannosaurus Rex, was one of the largest and most famous dinosaurs. It had sharp teeth and was a fierce predator.
  • Talking Point 4: Triceratops was a dinosaur with three horns on its head and a bony frill. It used its horns to defend itself from predators.
  • Talking Point 5: Brachiosaurus was a dinosaur with a long neck and a small head. It was one of the tallest dinosaurs and ate leaves from tall trees.
  • Talking Point 6: Some dinosaurs could fly, like Pterodactyl. They had wings made of skin and were not actually birds.
