Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will learn how to start seeds and understand the basic process of seed germination.
Materials and Prep
- Seeds (any kind you prefer)
- Small pots or containers
- Soil
- Water
- A sunny spot near a window
- A small watering can or spray bottle
Before the lesson, make sure you have all the materials ready. Also, prepare the pots or containers by filling them with soil.
Activities
- Activity 1: Planting Seeds
Take a small pot or container and fill it with soil. Make a small hole in the soil using your finger or a pencil. Place a seed in the hole and cover it gently with soil. Repeat this process with a few more seeds in different pots. - Activity 2: Watering the Seeds
Use a watering can or spray bottle to water the soil in each pot. Make sure the soil is moist but not too wet. Watering helps the seeds germinate and grow. - Activity 3: Observing and Caring for the Seeds
Place the pots in a sunny spot near a window. Observe the pots every day and water them whenever the soil feels dry. Keep track of how the seeds change and grow over time.
Talking Points
- Seeds are like tiny baby plants. They need soil, water, and sunlight to grow.
- When we plant a seed in the soil, it starts to grow roots and a stem.
- Water helps the seed absorb nutrients from the soil and grow bigger.
- Sunlight is like food for the seed. It helps the seed make its own food and grow leaves.
- As the seed grows, it will sprout and turn into a plant. We can watch it grow every day!
