Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will be able to decorate and paint a heart-shaped cardboard cutout.
Materials and Prep
- Heart-shaped cardboard cutouts
- Non-toxic washable paints
- Paintbrushes
- Smock or old clothes to protect from paint
- Paint palette or paper plates
- Table or workspace covered with newspaper or plastic

Before starting the lesson, make sure the workspace is set up and all materials are easily accessible.
Activities
- Introduce the heart-shaped cardboard cutouts to the student and discuss what they are.
- Show the student how to hold a paintbrush and dip it into the paint.
- Encourage the student to decorate the cardboard cutouts using different colors of paint. They can use brush strokes, dots, or finger painting techniques.
- Allow the painted cutouts to dry.
- Once dry, discuss with the student how they can further decorate the hearts, such as adding glitter or stickers.
- Display the finished artwork in a special place to celebrate the student's creativity.
