Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and describe different types of apples, understand the life cycle of an apple tree, and engage in language arts activities related to apples.

Materials and Prep

  • Apples (different varieties)
  • Apple tree diagram (drawn or printed)
  • Construction paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have familiarized yourself with different types of apples and their characteristics.

Activities

  1. Apple Tasting: Start by introducing different types of apples to the student. Let them observe the colors, sizes, and textures. Cut the apples into slices and have the student taste each one. Encourage them to describe the taste using words like sweet, tart, or juicy.
  2. Life Cycle of an Apple Tree: Show the student an apple tree diagram and explain the different stages of an apple tree's life cycle - from seed to tree to apple. Use simple language and visuals to help them understand.
  3. Apple Art: Provide the student with construction paper, markers or crayons, and scissors. Ask them to draw and cut out an apple shape from the paper. Then, have them write or draw something they learned about apples on the apple cutout.
  4. Apple Story Time: Read a preschool-level book about apples to the student. Pause at different points in the story to ask questions and encourage discussion. After reading, ask the student to retell the story in their own words.

  • "We can eat apples, and they taste delicious. Some apples are sweet, and some are a little sour."
  • "We can draw and write about what we learned about apples. Let's make an apple shape and use our markers or crayons to decorate it."
  • "Reading books about apples helps us learn more about them. Can you tell me what happened in the story we just read?"
