Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create and perform simple movement sequences that incorporate elements of space, time, objects, effort, and people.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for movement
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Water bottle for hydration
  • No prior knowledge needed, just bring your creativity and energy!

Activities

1. Space Exploration Dance: Imagine you are an astronaut floating in space. Move slowly as if there is no gravity, then suddenly jump and spin like you are landing on a new planet.

2. Time Travel Relay Race: Set up markers as different time periods (past, present, future). Run to each marker and perform a movement inspired by that time period.

3. Object Obstacle Course: Create an obstacle course using household objects. Crawl under tables, jump over pillows, and balance on a line like a tightrope walker.

4. Effortful Expressions: Make faces that show different levels of effort - happy face for easy movements, determined face for challenging movements, surprised face for unexpected movements.

5. People Parade: Create a parade with family members or stuffed animals. Each person or animal can lead the parade with a unique movement, and everyone else follows along.

Talking Points

  • "Space is so big and empty, like a giant playground for us to explore!"
  • "Time can take us to the past, present, or future. Let's see how we can move like people from different times!"
  • "Objects around us can be obstacles or tools for our movements. Let's use our imagination to navigate through them."
  • "Sometimes movements are easy like a walk in the park, and sometimes they are hard like climbing a mountain. Let's show those differences with our faces!"
  • "We can all be part of a parade and show off our unique movements. It's like a dance party with our favorite people and toys!"
