Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will learn about George Washington and why he was an important figure in history.

Materials and Prep

  • Coloring pencils or crayons
  • Blank paper
  • Printed picture of George Washington (can be found online)

No prior knowledge needed, just bring your curiosity!

Activities

  • Coloring George Washington: Print out a picture of George Washington and color it in with your favorite colors. You can make his coat blue, his hair white, and his hat black!
  • Story Time: Listen to a short story about George Washington. You can find stories online or in children's history books.
  • Play Pretend: Pretend to be George Washington for a few minutes. What would you say if you were the first President of the United States?

  • George Washington was the first President of the United States: "George Washington was a very important person in our country's history. He was the very first President of the United States!"
  • He was a brave leader: "George Washington was a brave leader who helped our country become free. He fought for our freedom and was a hero to many people."
  • He is on the one-dollar bill: "Have you ever seen a one-dollar bill? George Washington's face is on it! People see his face every day when they use money."
  • He lived a long time ago: "George Washington lived a long time ago, but we still remember him because of all the good things he did for our country."
  • He had wooden teeth: "Did you know that George Washington had wooden teeth? It's true! He had to wear false teeth because his real teeth were not healthy."
