By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify continents, oceans, and geographic regions on world maps and globes.

Materials and Prep

Materials: World maps, world globe

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the locations of continents, oceans, and some geographic regions.

Activities

1. Explore the world map and locate the continents. Discuss interesting facts about each continent.

2. Use the world globe to find the oceans and discuss their importance in our planet.

3. Play a fun game of "Guess the Country" where you describe a country and the student has to find it on the map.

Talking Points

  • Continents are large land masses surrounded by water. Can you name the seven continents? Let's find them on the map!
  • "Oceans cover about 70% of the Earth's surface. They are so big and important for our planet. Let's locate them on the globe!"
  • "Geographic regions are areas with similar characteristics like climate and vegetation. Can you find the desert regions on the map?"
  • "Did you know that the Amazon Rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world? Let's see where it is located on the map."
