Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to design and create your own push-pull toy using simple materials.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: paper, markers or crayons, scissors, tape, string, and a small cardboard box.
No prior knowledge is needed, just bring your creativity and imagination!
Activities
1. Design Time: Use the paper and markers to sketch out your push-pull toy idea. Think about what shapes and colors you want to use.
2. Build It: Cut out the shapes from the paper and attach them to the cardboard box using tape. Add the string for the pull mechanism.
3. Test and Play: Once your toy is complete, test it out by pulling the string and watching it move. Have fun playing with your creation!
Talking Points
- Designing the Toy: "Let's draw our toy design first. What colors do you want to use? What shape should it be?"
- Building the Toy: "Now, let's cut out the shapes and attach them to the box. This will make our toy sturdy and colorful."
- Adding the Pull String: "We need to add a string to make our toy move. This is called the pull mechanism. Can you think of a fun way to pull it?"
- Testing the Toy: "Time to test our toy! Give the string a gentle pull and watch it go. How can we make it move faster or slower?"
