Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil
- Colorful markers or crayons
- No prior knowledge required
Activities
- Noun Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around your house to find 10 different nouns. Write them down and draw a picture of each one.
- Adjective Rainbow: Choose a noun from your list and write it in the center of a paper. Then, write as many adjectives as you can think of around it in different colors to create a rainbow of describing words.
- Verb Charades: Act out different verbs like "jump", "dance", or "sing" and have a family member guess the action. This will help you remember what a verb is!
Talking Points
- Nouns: "Nouns are naming words. They are things we can see, touch, hear, smell, or taste. For example, 'dog', 'book', and 'ice cream' are all nouns."
- Adjectives: "Adjectives are describing words. They tell us more about a noun. If I say 'big dog', 'red book', or 'yummy ice cream', 'big', 'red', and 'yummy' are all adjectives."
- Verbs: "Verbs are action words. They show what someone or something is doing. For instance, 'run', 'read', and 'sleep' are all verbs because they describe actions."
